High Court sentences death penalty to murderers of Catholic Priest

A court in Cuiebet of Gok State has sentenced to death by hanging, two of the accused in the murder of Father Victor Luke Odhiambo who was killed a month ago in Cueibet Parish, Diocese of Rumbek.
 
Meanwhile, two others among the four who were arrested have been convicted to serve a ten years’ jail term, Good News reports.
 
The men who were sentenced to death by Gok State high Court Judge Yai Anyuon includes Chol Wieu Mabok and Tito Machiek Chol, while James Dak Mabil Mandeal Kut Tiir kuet will serve 10 years imprisionment.
 
Fr. Luke, a Catholic Priest of the Jesuit congregation was murdered 15th.November.2018 in the Bishop Mazzolari Teachers Training Center at 1:00 AM in his compound.
 
He was rushed to the local hospital where he passed away.
 
On Monday 19th.November.2018 the faithful accompanied the body of late Fr Luke for burial in Gok State where he was murdered.
 
The government of Gok State later arrested four accused of killing the Jesuit priest.
 
According to Good News Radio, the late was killed while administering Bishop Mazzolari Teachers College as a Principal for three years.
 
Late Rev. Victor Luke Odhiambo was assigned in Gok State as a principle of Chuei -bet Teacher’s training college in 2015 by the diocese. He was 62 years old.
 
 This is the second time a missionary is killed without clear reason since South Sudan became independent.
 
A Missionary Sister Veronica Rackova was the first to be killed in Yei River State in May 2016
 
The court has however, not mentioned whether the convicts have a chance for appeal or not.
