Investors from the Arab Republic of Egypt presented a five-year confirmation report on feasibility studies for the construction of a multipurpose Dam on Sue River in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal.
The project is expected to complete in less than five years to the tune of one thousand million US Dollars benefiting 500 thousand inhabitants in Wau Town, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
National Electricity, Dam and Water Resources Minister Jemma Nunu Kumba said the Dam would increase navigation; provide safe drinking water and generate hydro-electric power for Wau population.
Egyptian Water Resource and Irrigation Minister Hossam Mohamed said work on the ground could start in less than two months and run in five phases starting with electric power generation of ten mega watts, construction of four water plant systems and provision of irrigation water for 35,000 acres in addition to other services.
Western Bahr El Ghazal State Governor Rizig Zachariah Hassan acknowledged potentiality of the Egyptian investment deal describing it as ‘a win- win project’ with both countries benefiting.
Wau Dam on Sue River project would cause the state adverse environmental impact but authority said is manageable.
Investors said hundreds of people living along the 150 meters port site would be displaced and their farms destroyed.
