Oxfam South Sudan Director, in response to the release of the latest Integrated Phase Classification food security analysis, expressed serious concerns that lack of food may peak in May and June reaching emergency levels.
In a statement CRN obtained, Zlatko Gegic expressed fears that if humanitarian agencies wait until then, it may be too late.
The statement pointed out that by the end of February, 600 million US Dollars is needed to take advantage of the dry season when more people could be reached by road and supplies prepositioned for the rest of the year to save more lives.
The Director observed that the ‘only way to end the violence and suffering of the people of South Sudan is by reaching a lasting peace deal’.
The official appealed to the warring parties to deliver on their promises to save the nation from jeopardy.
