South Sudan Media stakeholders are joining efforts to celebrate World Radio Day on February 13 under the theme: ‘Youth and Radio’.

The Day is to remember the unique power of radio to touch lives and bring people together across every corner of the globe and increase the level of participation of young people, not just as listeners but as producers of content.

The World Radio Day is a great opportunity to plan a youth-focused event or activity including producing a radio show programme ‘by youth for youth’.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO in partnership with International Telecommunication Union and European Broadcasting Union are expected to air 24-hours programmes contributed by broadcasting unions all over the world.

They said broadcasting unions have to organize an open day for the public run by young people to ensure not only they learn about the inner workings of radio, but see first-hand the vital contribution they make in the sector.

The partners said the outdoor broadcasts are a great way to increase the participation of young people and put the organization at the centre of community activities.
