Tombura-Yambio Catholic Bishop on Tuesday appealed to citizens of Western Equatoria to portray to outsiders a good image of the state.
Bishop Barani Edwardo Hiiboro Kussala urged the state government to scrutinize their personnel at customs and checkpoints to treat people especially foreigners fairly, Radio Anisa reported.
He lamented that two Kenyan drivers who were transporting Tombura-Yambio Catholic Diocese School materials were beaten mercilessly at Bazungua check-point in Yambio on Sunday.
He explained that the materials were packed in containers in Netherlands for opening a Vocational Training School in Mupoi Parish.
A Kenyan driver, Ali Bashir, told Radio Anisa that officers at Bazungua check-points slapped him fiercely and asked him to pay 220 South Sudanese Pounds despite the legal documents.
Bazungua check-point Sergeant Martin confirmed the incident and expressed disappointments, saying investigations are underway.
