United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO is conducting stakeholders’ workshop on World Cultural, Heritage Protection Convention on Thursday in Juba.
South Sudan UNESCO Culture Specialist Ellen Lekka said the workshop is expected to discuss the findings of the assessment African Wildlife Foundation carried out on the natural heritage of South Sudan for inclusion in the tentative world heritage list.
She said the workshop followed mapping of the natural heritage sites of South Sudan for it to become member of International Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Ms Lekka said UNESCO assigned the African Wildlife Foundation to assess the natural heritage of South Sudan for inclusion in the tentative world heritage list based on criteria for outstanding universal values.
She said the Foundation identified Sudd region landscape and the migration of the white eared knob in the Boma National Park and concluded that South Sudan possesses natural heritage irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.
