Support Peace Initiative for Development Organization or SPIDO on Monday started training at least 18 paralegals in Torit, Eastern Equatoria.
SPIDO Rule of Law Officer Morris Peter John said the training was in basic concepts of rule of law and human rights due to issues of violations, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He added that the training also focuses on paralegals’ roles, difference lawyers and how they can help people at the grassroots levels to know legal procedures.
The officer noted the need to know who the paralegals are, their roles, difference from lawyers and their importance in communities.
He added that the trainees would monitor court activities within Torit County.
Mr Morris appealed to the paralegals to know some of the human rights violations and the violators within the county and how to help the victims in communities.
SPIDO Rule of Law Director Poya Isaac said the paralegal were trained to give legal advice to people who cannot afford lawyers.
The training was funded by United Nations Development Programme.
