Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS removed 30 civilians from the Rubkona, Unity State airstrip on Friday and brought them to the civilians protection site in the UN compound.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman in a statement on Friday evening said one civilian died and eight others wounded during the fighting in Bentiu, Unity State, UN News Digest reported.
In a statement on Friday afternoon, the Secretary-General strongly condemned the resumption of hostilities between government and opposition forces in Bentiu and Rubkona.
He called upon President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar to cease immediately all military operations, reminding them of their obligation to protect civilians and respect international humanitarian law.
