Food and Agriculture Organization or FAO Specialist on Thursday disclosed that laziness, characterized by people sitting under trees across urban centres hampers food security efforts in South Sudan.

Agriculture Specialist David Okot said in an interactive presentation in Juba that local labour is a constraint to food production due to laziness.

He explained that food imports and foreign labour from East Africa are cheaper than local products because of some citizens’ idleness.

The Specialist advised people of the young country to treat farming as a business for livelihood including education, health and clean water.

Mr Okot challenges idle South Sudanese against sitting under trees to eat and drink only, regarding farming as a punishment instead of being source of income.

The Specialist urged South Sudanese to engage in agriculture by planting weather resistant crops to minimize the looming famine.
