Telecommunication and Postal Services Undersecretary on Thursday urged drivers and masses to stop communicating while driving to minimize accidents.
Juma Stephen Luga said many accidents happened and many lives lost as a result of telephone conversation while driving, Bakhita Radio reported.
He added that UN report indicated 1.3 million lives were lost all over the world due to telephone use while driving.
Mr Luga said communication should be used as a tool to improve economic development.
Central Equatoria State Education Quality Promotion and Innovation Director Amos Longa Modi encouraged schools to improve teaching science and mathematics for learners to take Telecommunication Engineering in colleges.
He said box numbers are not functioning all over South Sudan, calling for the extension of telecommunication services to rural areas to reduce illiteracy.
The officials made the statements during World Telecommunications Information Society Day at Juba I Basic School under the theme: ‘Broad band for transformation of our communities’.
