Torit, Bor governments wrangle over Kesangor Payam

Eastern Equatoria State government based in Torit is in dispute with Jonglei State government based in Bor over alleged annexation of Jie community of Kesangor Payam to Pibor County of Jonglei State.
 
Acting State Assembly Speaker Paul Napwon on Tuesday objected claims by Defence Minister Kuol Manyang Juuk that Jie of Kesangor Payam belongs to Pibor County, Emmanuel Radio reported.
 
He said a letter allegedly written by the Defence Minister claimed Kesangor Payam as of Pibor County of Jonglei State, stirring a controversy.
 
The letter directed the undersecretary to release two Land Cruiser Pick-ups to Jie community of Kesangor Payam in Pibor County.
 
Speaker Napwon said Burma formerly part of Eastern Equatoria State was annexed to Jonglei State in a mysterious circumstance.
 
He called for investigation and return of the lost territory to Eastern Equatoria State.
 
Governor Louis Lobong Lojore is reportedly concerned that more parts of Kapoeta East County are claimed to create Greater Pibor Administration under the Office of President as agreed in ongoing peace talks between government and David Yau Yau.
 
Kesangor Payam Member of Parliament Benjamin Lopeyok Kumuya said his constituency was part of Kapoeta district of Equatoria province since the colonial era in 1956.
 
He moved a motion over the matter generating a heated debate, accusing Jonglei State of grabbing Eastern Equatoria territory.
 
The Defence Minister could not be reached for comment on the matter.
