Yambio County Primary School Inspector said the number of primary school pupils increased in 2014 considerably compared to previous academic years.
William Ezikiya Murangi disclosed a total number of 21,388 pupils registered in Yambio County alone, indicating 9,513 are boys and 11,875 are girls, Anisa Radio reported.
He appreciated the rise in girls’ enrolment compared to boys.
The inspector said 71 registered primary schools across the county lack durable structures and money to employ adequate number of teachers.
He said most schools operate under trees and temporary shelters in rural areas.
