South Sudan women demand for women IGAD mediators

South Sudan women on Friday called for women representation in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, IGAD peace mediation process.
 
Eve women development organization Director Rita Martin raised a rare complaint that all IGAD mediators in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia peace talks are all men, saying there are capable women in mediation.
 
She added that women are calling for involvement of independent civil society organizations in the negotiation process to cater women concerns in peace building.
 
The women urged government to rectify policies that support women, peace and security to bring rape perpetrators to justice.
 
The Director appealed to the AU Commission of Inquiry not to focus only on cases rape and violence, but also to investigate implementation of women rights and affirmative action policies in the country.
 
Mrs. Martin urged the regional bodies fund women involvement in the peace talks for them to come and preach to the grassroots.
