Eastern Equatoria Rule of Law actors urged United Nations Development Program or UNDP in Torit to enlighten citizens on human rights violation in the country.
In a rule of law forum on Friday, participants called for an urgent need of reaching people in villages where many human rights abuses and traditional harmful practices were highly carried out, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Participants cited cattle raiding, girl child compensation, illegal guns possession, forced and early marriage as some of issues to be addressed.
State Local Government Minister Ambrose Lokonoi encouraged UNDP to involve paramount chiefs from the eight counties while organizing a forum to help in identifying citizens’ concerns.
The forum aimed to create awareness on effectiveness of rule of law and access to justice, identify areas of improvement and work out intervention strategies.
The meeting under the theme: ‘Towards a sustainable rule of law and access to justice for all’ drew together government officials, traditional leaders, civil society groups UN agencies and other rule of law actors in the state.
