Government Spokesperson on Friday produced a document as an evident of the death of 63 Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs in United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS’ compounds in Juba.
Michael Makuei Lueth said it was unfortunate that the Mission dismissed allegations of IDPs dying in its camps due to improper medical care on The Citizen Newspaper.
He added that on January 10, Juba Teaching Hospital received 11 dead bodies with details of name, tribe, age, sex, cause of death, date of admission, birth and dying time.
Mr Makuei said Juba Teaching Hospital received 17 dead bodies from UNMISS camps in Juba Nabari and Jebel areas on January 17.
He added that another 13 dead bodies were received on January 24.
The spokesperson said 22 dead bodies remained in Juba Teaching Hospital unburied until Friday evening.
Mr Makuei disclosed that UNMISS signed a contract on December 30 with ACTED organization to provide treatment, process legal documents and bury the dead.
The Government Spokesperson said the cabinet on Friday requested UNMISS to allow government doctors access patients in the Mission’s camps or refer sick people to the hospital.
He revealed that IDPs mainly died of acute diarrhea, malnutrition and malaria.
