Most cooperative projects fail because South Sudanese anticipate failure with pessimism in their plans.
This was the view New Nation Multipurpose Cooperative or NNMC deputy chairman and co-founder Bol Yohana Mathew shared with Voice of Hope in Wau.
He said he and 51 other individuals initiated the cooperative with the contribution of 1,000.00 South Sudanese Pounds each and plus a monthly fee of 50 Pounds but some didn’t fully commit themselves financially as required.
Mr Yohana attributed the failure of commitment to the current economic situation that left most people negative and pessimistic.
He explained that South Sudanese tend of expect the worse always even in their own plans.
The NNMC founder said cooperative unions are very important for the growth of the national economy and such unions could provide cheaper goods to the markets.
Mr Yohana urged government officials to form cooperatives for their survival rather than relying on often-delayed salaries.
He disclosed that the NNMC prepared a farm to cultivate various types of vegetables this dry season.
He also revealed plans to seek loans from financial institutions to finance cooperative projects.
The NNMC Deputy Chairman said cooperatives contribute 50 percent of income to the national economies of African countries.
