Didinga, Toposa celebrate agreement for peaceful co-existence

Dancing, ululation, wailing and jumping marked the signing of a peace agreement between Didinga and Toposa communities on Saturday.
 
Didinga and Toposa communities reached a peace agreement and vowed to end hostility on Saturday at Lorege, in Piobokoi Boma, Lotukei Payam in Budi County, Emmanuel Radio reported. 
 
The communities of Budi and Kapoeta counties in Eastern Equatoria state agreed peace after years of conflict over grazing lands and water sources.
 
Before resolving that peace should prevail between the Toposa and Didinga, the two communities identified several causes of conflict.
 
Elders performed rituals of sprinkling water for blessings, and sharing a calabash of local brew as sign of togetherness and love, before inking the agreement.
 
State Government adviser for Peace and Security Claudio Suleiman Liling signed on behalf of the government as a witness to the peace agreement.
 
Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Torit Arkangelo Lokoro Pio signed for the Church while representatives also signed for the communities.
 
Norwegian Church Aid funded the three-day peace dialogue organized by the Justice and Peace Department of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.
