Budi County of Eastern Equatoria state is hosting a three-day cross-border peace conference at Lorege Piobokoi Boma, Lotukei Payam.
Torit Catholic Diocese Justice and Peace Coordinator John Opi Severino told Emmanuel Radio that Toposa and Didinga communities were the main actors in the peace dialogue that started on Friday.
He added that other communities including the Buya in Budi, the Biira of Ikwoto and the Dodoth of Uganda were witnesses to the peace dialogue.
Fr Opi said the dialogue aimed at bringing peace between Toposa and Didinga communities to enable them resolve issues related to sharing resources, cattle raids and revenge attacks.
He disclosed that the two communities requested to dialogue over sharing grazing land and water points before the dry season started.
Budi County Commissioner Maurice Kaunda appreciated the peace dialogue and paid tribute to the organizers and funders.
Mr Kaunda called for the need to bring the communities to peaceful co-existence and to share resources in harmony.
He acknowledged that a cross boarder peace conference held at Piobokoi in July brought greater reduction in cattle raids and thefts.
Eastern Equatoria State Government Advisor on Peace and Security Claudio Suleiman Liling represented the state government at the conference.
In his opening remark, Mr Suleiman said security and peace were not only the responsibility of the government but a collective responsibility of every citizen.
The advisor noted that development does not have any good relationship with conflict and insecurity, calling for reconciliation and peace among the pastoral communities.
Norwegian Church Aid funded the three-day peace conference organized by the Peace and Justice Department of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.
