EE Governor urges farmers to boost economy

Eastern Equatoria Governor urged farmers to use agriculture to improve the national economy.
 
Opening the state agriculture show at Torit Model Market on Saturday, Louis Lobong Lojore stressed the need to liberate the nation through food security, Emmanuel Radio reported.
 
He said farmers could be rich people with more money than ministers and other officials and eating every day.
 
Governor Lobong encouraged farmers to share their experiences for successful farming in the state.
 
The Director General in the Ministry of Agriculture Anne Felix Itwari noted that farmers faced many challenges including the negative attitudes towards farming, lack of marketing for farm produce and dependence on rainfall.
 
The Director General called for introduction of modern farming technologies to help improve agricultural production.
 
Budi County Farmers Association chairperson Virjilio Konyen blamed poor roads network that impedes farmers’ to access markets to sell their produce. 
 
He cited the government’s failure to construct roads in farming areas. 
 
Eastern Equatoria Agriculture Show kicked off on Saturday under the theme: ‘Diversity in farming is the key for sustainable agriculture and socio-economic growth.’
