The Transitional Constitution of South Sudan clearly defines the roles of the three arms of government but they are not separate in practice.
Secretary General for South Sudan Law Society Wani Mathias Jumi said there is much interference with the roles of Judiciary and Legislature by the Executive in the Republic of South Sudan.
He added that the Executive’s interference stopped progress in the other pillars of governance.
Mr Mathias reiterated that South Sudanese do not know boundaries in governance.
The Secretary General added that it was not clear who monitored violations if independency was not respected.
Mr Mathias noted that the citizens need sensitization on their rights to keep power holders accountable in case of law infringement.
He said anyone who knows what the law demands cannot be mistreated or arrested at random.
The Civil Society Constitution Content advocates for constitutional recognition of the sovereignty of citizens and reduction of presidential powers.
