Members of Eastern Equatoria state legislative assembly on Tuesday recommended killing of stray dogs in Torit town.

The resolution followed an urgent matter moved by Health, Social Development and Gender Committee chairperson Margret Kasara, on health and sanitation in Torit town, Emmanuel Radio reported.

The Legislators term the increasing number of stray dogs in Torit town as threat to public health and security and that those loitering without owners should be killed.

They directed the state ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries and Torit County administration to kill and bury bodies of all dogs in the town.

The lawmakers said increasing number of stray dogs poses danger to human health.

State Health Minister Margret Itto supported that killing of stray dogs prevents humans against bites and contracting rabies disease.
