South Sudan Red Cross assists Raja flood victims

South Sudan Red Cross in Western Bahr El Ghazal donated non food items to 43 flood affected households in Khor Hajar Boma, Damzubier Payam of Raja County. 
 
The beneficiaries stayed for almost one month in miserable conditions after floods destroyed their houses, belongings and crops, Voice of Hope reported. 
 
South Sudan Red Cross chairperson in Wau Leon Arkangelo said they assessed damages and found that 70 houses of 43 households collapsed and they responded.
 
He said the assistant will help victims start new life, but that there is need for resources mobilization for more assistance.
 
Khor Hajar Chief Thomas Alberto said all houses collapsed in the area and all crops were washed away.
 
He confirmed that this is the first time that heavy rains caused such catastrophic damages.
 
The chief called for government’s’ and NGOs’ intervention to rescue the situation of the people in the area.
 
The Chief warned that two bridges linking Wau to Raja were almost collapsing if heavy rains continue.
