Egypt is going through a transition period that is both painful and dangerous.
Egyptian Catholic priest Paul Anis told CRN that the uprising between June 30 and July 3 was a clear sign that Egypt rejected President Morsi and the Muslim Brothers’ system.
He said they wanted to create a pan-Islamic Umma among all Arab countries.
Fr Anis, who heads the Comboni Missionaries in Egypt, said the Muslim Brothers are well armed and the police, controlled by them, is refusing to protect civilians in the bloody street battles.
He said the Coptic Pope Tewedros the Second is calling for an Egypt that includes and respects every citizen.
The new patriarch was part of the coalition that on July 3 presented a roadmap for the future of the country.
Fr Anis said the political situation in Egypt forced the Churches to work together overcoming the traditional Orthodox hostility towards the other Christians.
He added that he believes that God is transforming Egyptian history because Muslims rejected the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood.
