The faithful of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba were invited to celebrate their faith by planting trees in July and August and parents were invited to mark the baptism of their children by planting trees.
The tree planting campaign is part of the Year of Faith program as Nicholas Kiri, the parish priest of All Saints-Rejaf, explained to CRN.
He said Catholics are asked to plant trees as a symbol of renewal of their faith.
Fr Kiri said parents should also plant a tree in the day their children are baptized to stand as a memorial of the event for those admitted into the Catholic Church during the Year of Faith.
The cleric explained that the tree planting program is also a means to remember the struggle of South Sudan for independence and the personal struggle to renew the faith.
Fr Kiri said independence marked the beginning of a new journey for citizens of South Sudan and the planting of trees is also a way of moving forward without discouragement and with God’s blessings.
He asked South Sudanese to join the archdiocese of Juba and plant a tree as symbol of their hope and commitment to move forward.
