Residents of Libogo area in Lasu Payam of Yei River County reported that early and forceful marriages together with parental negative attitudes towards girl’s education contributed to high rates of school dropouts in the area.

Speaking during a community meeting on Thursday, one of the members who kept his names off record outlined that age brackets, modern influence on life style and distant schools were other factors limiting girl’s education, Radio Easter reported.

Responding to the community, Yei River County Commissioner Juma David Augustine called on parents and stakeholders to join hands towards the support and protection of girls’ education.

He said the development of the payam, county, state and the whole country comes through girls’ education.

Mr Juma said education was a joint responsibility and adults should send kids to school.
