The future of South Sudan lies on education and not on oil and by 2040 South Sudanese should be able to compete for specialized jobs in the international market.

This is the vision the Undersecretary in the ministry of Education Deng Deng Hoch expressed while closing the Literacy Training of Trainers in Juba on Saturday, Bakhita Radio reported.

Dr Deng said only three percent of the teachers were trained while the remaining 97 percent were primary or secondary school leavers.

He added that the South Sudan Teachers Education Programme the ministry is conducting addresses the need for qualified teachers.

Dr Deng said it is only education that can transform the lives of millions in South Sudan.

He added that one day the oil will dry out and the country needs to prepare its future through education.

Dr Deng said to have an economy based on knowledge, the country needs to educate and built the skills of its people before 2040.

He called on the teachers to put in more efforts not to fail the next generation and die as happy people.

Dr Deng said by 2017 the ministry should have trained over 30 thousand teachers with the support of development partners.
