WBG GOVERNMENT TO EMPLOY AGRICULTURALISTS FOR FOOD SECURITY

The Governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal disclosed plans to employ graduates in agriculture to improve living conditions and food security in the State.

Rizik Zachariah Hassan told the staff at the State Ministries of Agriculture and Forestry, Animal Resources and Fisheries on Wednesday that the state boasts nearly 2,000 graduates in agriculture but only 600 were employed with the government, Voice of Hope reported.

He said in order to improve the living conditions the government must revolutionize the agriculture sector through the employment of qualified staff.

The Governor said the state would increase productivity through employment of new graduates, distribution of improved seeds and use of agricultural tools.

He added that austerity measures affected the plans for the agriculture sector in the state.

He called on farmers and state employees to restore community work locally known as “naffir” to encourage group work and togetherness through modern agriculture.

Governor Zachariah urged State ministries to speed up the formation of agricultural cooperatives at payam level to ease service delivery to farmers during the rainy season.

Last week, the State Ministry of Agriculture announced the formation of 27 agricultural cooperatives in the state.
