Yei River County Commissioner issued a local order banning disco operations and night clubs in Ombasi Boma following outcries from the local community about the high rate of school dropouts among girls and boys in the area.
Commissioner Juma David Augustine addressed the residents of Ombasi Boma, saying prevention was better than cure, Radio Easter reported.He assured the community that discos were banned from operation during market days until improvements were seen.
Commissioner Juma said anyone who violates the order will face legal action.
Community members welcomed the ban as a way to salvage some of the challenges facing the school children in Ombasi Boma.
