Medical doctors want to work only in Juba, Wau and Malakal and spend very little time in public hospitals to attend clients in private clinics.

National Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport Cirino Hiteng Ofuho said it was a big struggle to take doctors to Torit, Yei and other small towns.

He charged that doctors referred patients to their private clinics instead of treating them in public hospitals.

Dr Hiteng said water supply was a bizarre situation in Juba because the river flows through the town but people including government ministers spend a lot of money to get it from tankers.

Dr Hiteng made the comments during the World Bank Economic lecture under the theme “Why are there so many poor people in Africa and South Asia?” on Thursday in Juba.
