After independence, the Government is not respecting the work of journalists and considers them enemies.

Veteran journalist Alfred Taban told the attendants of a workshop organised by the World Bank Institute to train reporters that journalists are not free to operate in South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.

He asked the Government to accept the work of the journalists and allow them to operate freely.

He added that many journalists went silent after the killing of Isaiah Abraham because they fear to be targeted.

Mr Taban said most journalists are not doing enough to investigate corruption.

He added that corruption issues were brought out due to leaked reports by the President of the Republic.

Mr Taban said the environment for reporting in South Sudan changed after independence.

He explained that during the referendum the Government counted on journalists to confront the enemy in Khartoum.

After independence, the Government turned against the journalists instead of working together to fight bad habits.
