Security forces have arrested Rejaf Payam Director-General, his deputy and sub-committee members in a land dispute in Gumbo.

Ê

Rejaf Payam Director General, Michael Francis told Bakhita Radio that they were surrounded by more than 10 security personnel and forced into a car at a gun point.

Ê

The arrest came after a police general failed to win a case of disputed land of his father-in-law with the Paramount Chief of Juba County, Denis Daramolo Fundi.

He said they were forced into the car like criminals, although they did nothing.

Mr Francis said the action is an embarrassment to the government because even top government officials are ignorant of the national Constitution and the Land Act.

He said the arrest was ordered by Johnson Losuk requested by Jackson Elia who failed to win a case for his father-in-law.

Killings and arbitrary arrests have become common in Juba blamed on the security forces.

Directors and other senior government officials are immune to arbitrary arrest and torture, but this is widely misunderstood in South Sudan.
