HIV INCREASES IN YEI COUNTY

The Human Immune Virus (HIV) is on the increase in Yei River County Central Equatoria state by 15 percent in the 2012 compared to three percent two years ago.

Sarah Auma the HIV/AIDS Activist working for Population Service International South Sudan said Yei ART centre has registered 2122 people carrying the Virus and 670 taking ARV.

She Yei ART centre released a report that in October and December 2012, 214 discontinued taking the drugs and 28 people died of AIDS.

Ms. Auma revealed that Lasu Refugee Camp tested 600 and 21 got positive among the 21 are women and 3 are men ranging from 15-30 years of age.

She said women are tested when going for antenatal care in Health Centres.

Ms. Auma said young people are leading in the HIV infection in the Country because they are sexually active compared to older people in the Country.

She said the County is bordering Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo where people get involved in some sexual immoralities.

The Activist warned the people against assuming their status, but people have to go go for testing to know the real status.

The Announcement was made at Yei Freedom Square during the celebration of World AIDS Day on Saturday.
