Yei County AIDS Commission complained of poor preparations for the World AIDS Day that was celebrated in the Freedom Square on Saturday.
Chris Issa Gordon the Coordinator of the Commission revealed that this year’s celebration was the poorest compared to the previous years in the County.He said there was NGOs low turn up for contributions for the Day and lack of support from state government at all this year.
The Coordinator disclosed that getting HIV is not a misfortune but a choice that people make because they allow prostitution to continue in the town, involvement in drinking of dangerous drugs influence them to unprotected sex.
PSI South Sudan HIV/AIDS Activist, Sarah Auma requested the people to accept their results if they are tested HIV positive.
Ms. Auma said people need to be vigilant of the alarming rates of syphilis which reads at 1o percent in the county and people also need to treat Tuberculosis at its earliest stage as it is related to AIDS.
Rose Jane Yobu, Yei County Women Association representative stressed that massive education needs to be given to ordinary people instead of intellectuals who sit with the information in their offices.
Yei River County Executive Director, John Mogga Ezekiel, warned the people against the increasing rates of HIV which now stands at 15 percent compared to 3 percent two years ago.
He appealed to the population to go for Voluntary Counseling and Testing in order to know their status.
Mr Mogga also called on the NGOs to cooperate with the Government in fighting the pandemic in the County.
World AIDS Day in Yei was brought together Government, NGOs officials, religious leaders, community based organizations and People living with HIV.
