SOUTH SUDAN LAUNCHES AGRICULTURE TRADE FAIR

The national Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on Tuesday launched the second Agriculture Trade Fair to strengthen food security in the country.

The fair bought together farmers from the ten states to showcase the crop production of their state.

Ê

Minister of Agriculture Betty Achan Ogwaro said the entire livelihood of South Sudanese depends on subsistence farming that does not provide sufficient financial resources.

She said the agriculture sector needs support from the government to diversify on the national economy.

Ms Achan added that the Maputo Declaration calls on governments to put ten percent of their budgets to agriculture.

President Salva Kiir said the government understand the importance and benefit of agriculture and remain committed to develop the agriculture sector.

He called on all the people to work hard to protect the future of the young generation.

The Agriculture Trade Fair drew many participants both from within and outside the country.
