Eighteen fishermen lost their nets in Tonj South County of Warrap State after being caught fishing without licenses.

On Wednesday, Wildlife officer Albino Bol Bui told Don Bosco FM that his office confiscated 18 nets from illegal fishermen.

He said most fishermen use nets without license or proper papers.

Mr Bui said small nets were not allowed in the river because they can catch very small fish.

He urged all fishermen of Tonj South County to get their nets licensed.

Mr Bui said a license for using cross-river nets costs 70 Pounds, using hooks 50 Pounds and dropping nets 100 Pounds.

The Wildlife officer said his office needed a motorboat for patrolling the river and spot illegal fishermen.

Fisherman John Apeth complained that the fishing licenses were very expensive.

He said most fishermen use traditional fishing rings and nets to survive because they are without work.
