The Eastern Equatoria Government placed a hunger alert to relief organizations to help bridge the food gap that threatens some counties in the state.
Information minister Felix Otuduha Siro told Radio Emmanuel that the government is appealing for food aid to feed the affected counties for about nine months till next harvest.Mr Otuduha said insects destroyed crops in Kapoeta East and in parts of Kapoeta North while floods affected four payams in Torit County.
The hunger alarm was sounded days after farmers from the eight counties of Eastern Equatoria displayed their products in an Agricultural Fair indicating a good harvest in some areas of the state.
Torit County was the least among the eight counties, a position the minister attributes to the floods and dependence on few crops like sorghum, millet, groundnuts and vegetables.
