Students of Juba Day Secondary on Wednesday said the Government was responsible for the police shooting at school that sent a colleague and a teacher to hospital with bullet wounds.

On Wednesday, students demonstrated against the construction of a private on school grounds and destroyed a container with some building material.

A female student explained to CRN that the situation escalated when the police arrested two students, tied them up and sped them out in a truck.

She said the students shouted at the police to release the colleagues but they refused.

The student responded by hurling stones at police and officers in uniform and plain cloths fired at them.

Ms Poni accused the police of violating their mandate to protect civilians.

She said the students were fighting for the land that belonged to the school and they wanted to preserve it for the generations to come.

Ms Poni said most families could not send their children to study abroad like the people in government and had to protect school properties for the future.

A male said it was unlawful for the police to stomp into the school’s compound with guns.

He said the police should have stayed outside because the students were not fighting anybody.

He said the students had right to demand an explanation from the government for sending police with live munitions instead of taking other appropriate steps to control the manifestation.
