A delegation form the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa or COMESA visited the national ministry of commerce to assess South Sudan’s situation.

COMESA Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya told the press in Juba that South Sudan needed not to apply for membership since it was a family member, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said he visited Juba to discuss issues of capacity building, energy, trade and private sector finances.

Commerce minister Garang Diing Akuong said his ministry was able to discuss several issues with COMESA, including trade, commerce and capacity building.

He added that the ministry requested some critical equipment to control the quality of imported goods.

Mr Diing said COMESA will be a big market for South Sudan if the country becomes a full member.

He added that the Secretary General invited him and President Salva Kiir to attend the COMESA summit in Kampala later this month.
