Prices have gradually dropped in Yei markets due to a cheaper dollar and a good local harvest.

Radio Easter news team conducted a research at Dar Salaam market and found that people could buy more things for less money.

Joyce Poni, a maize and wheat flour seller, explained that prices went down because the Dollar was cheaper in the black market.

She added that the arrival of the local produce to the market brought prices down.

Buyer Jeina Kiden said she bought a bucket of maize and cassava flour at 20 and 23 pounds, respectively.

Two months ago she would have paid more 15 pounds for the maize and 22 for the cassava.

Seller Mawa Elisha said a bag of 50 kilograms of maize flour now sells at 180 pounds but before it cost 260.

A bag of rice sells at 260 pounds, 20 pounds less than two months ago.

One hundred dollars is 100 pounds cheaper in Yei’s black market: it used to cost 550 pounds but now is down to 450.
