Pibor authorities have organized a conference for Murle chiefs in an attempt to contain the support for a growing rebellion in Jonglei State.
County Commissioner Joshua Konyi told CRN over the phone that the 51 Murle chiefs were sent back with instructions to separate civilians from David Yau Yau’s forces.Mr Konyi said the UN report that civilians were leaving Pibor for fear of a military confrontation between army and rebels was based on rumours.
He added that the situation was calm around Pibor and no one was leaving the town.
Mr Konyi said Yau-Yau militias are in Likuangole and Gumuruk but are keeping a low profile.
He added that the disarmament exercise was suspended in Pibor County following deadly clashes between militias and army.
