The leader of SPLM-North said in a press statement on Friday that the movement welcomes the Addis Ababa agreements between South Sudan and Sudan on trade and oil resumption.

Secretary-General Yasir Arman headed the SPLM-North delegation to Addis Ababa. He said the movement welcomed the agreements between the two governments and any subsequent agreement that will lead to normalize relations between the two countries.

Mr Arman added that establishment of a demilitarized buffer zone between the two countries needs the SPLM-North’s cooperation because the movement controls more than 40 percent of the international border with South Sudan in Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains.

He added that the SPLM-North was ready to cooperate and the delegation to Addis Ababa talks proposed that the humanitarian operation and opening of the unrestricted access should be linked to a cessation of hostilities.

Mr Arman lamented that the Addis Ababa summit did not recognize the humanitarian situation in Blue Nile and Nuba Mountains and Khartoum adamantly refused to negotiate with the SPLM-North in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2046.

The SPLM-North Secretary-Genral accused Sudan of failing to implement the June 28 Framework Agreement and the tripartite proposal for humanitarian operations in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.
