Staff members of two colleges at the University of Juba have expressed mixed feelings about the National Museum debate that took place at the campus last week.

Iduol Beny, a part time lecturer at the Department of Architecture, told CRN on Thursday that the debate was good but it was very discouraging because national architects were not invited and students did not know about it.

She said museums and archives needed open competition and she would like to see South Sudanese architects competing too.

Ms Beny alleged that the National Museum project was already given to a foreign firm that came to the university looking for concepts.

David Morbe, lecturer at the Department of Music and Drama, said the National Museum was vital to unite the people as one nation.

He added that the museum should be a place for everybody to see and reflect their identity and a symbol of unity and nationalism.

Mr Morbe said experts in cultural objects should be involved in the construction of the National Museum together with architects.
