DIPLOMAT PREPARES TONJ BRASS BAND VISIT TO SOUTH KOREA

The South Korean Honorary Consul in South Sudan visited Tonj South County in Warrap State over the weekend to make preparations for a local band to tour his country.

Kee Choon Kim accompanied members from the South Sudan Immigration Department to prepare passports, nationality cards and visas for the members of Don Bosco Brass Band, Don Bosco FM reported.

Don Bosco Brass Band was invited to play a number of concerts in South Korea in honour of late Fr. John Lee, a Salesian of Don Bosco medical doctor who worked in Tonj.

Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation Conference Secretariat made all travel arrangements, schedule of concerts and official visits in conjunction with the Salesians of Don Bosco in South Sudan.

The 31 musicians, accompanied by Fr. Shyjan George and Sr. Shanty Anthony, depart from Rumbek on October 11 for a ten-day tour to South Korea.

During their stay, the Band will meet with family members of Fr. Lee, play a number of concerts and take part in a cultural exchange program with South Korean students.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit gave special permission to the South Korean Embassy to fly a plane from Juba to Tonj to advance the passport and visa process.

The director of South Sudan’s Immigration Department and his team flew with all the equipment necessary to issue the nationality cards and passports.
