A group of medical doctors in Wau Teaching Hospital started a sit-down strike over unpaid salaries and allowances.
Eighteen contracted and under training doctors Tuesday decided to start a sit-in strike until the hospital administration met their pay claims, Voice of Hope reported. The doctors submitted on Monday a written memo to the hospital administration giving 24 hours for their salaries and allowances to be paid.
Wau Teaching Hospital Medical Director Marcello Gabriel Ganda said the strike was affecting mostly the outpatients department.
He said that the doctors not on strike were not enough to handle the huge number of patients who turned up for a check-up.
Dr. Gabriel explained the striking doctors were paid by the Ministry of Health in Juba, but they were blaming the hospital administration for the delay.
Wau Hospital Medical Director said the hospital was operating and the administration was trying to close the gap left by the striking doctors with other staff.
The striking doctors include 13 house officers and five contracted.
