The National Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has blamed configuration based on the austerity budget for the delay to pay July and August salaries.
Kosti Manibe Ngai told the press on Tuesday that the delay was also due to administrative issues in the Ministry of Labour as payrolls were returned to suit the austerity budget. He explained that some Ministries’ payrolls were returned from the Ministry of Public Service for readjustment and 50 percent deduction on housing allowances.
Mr Manibe said the recent cuts in pay of government employees did not touch salaries of public servants.
The minister’s clarification comes after civil servants expressed unhappiness about cuts made to their payments for the month of July and delayed payments.
