The Director of Rumbek’s Good News Radio was physically assaulted on Tuesday night by unidentified thugs as he drove one staff home, suffering several injuries in the head, face and elbows.

Don Bosco Ochieng said the attack took place at around 10 PM near a shop where the late night English newscaster went to buy some airtime.

He narrated that two young men, who recognized him as a priest, pulled him out of the car, beat him with a stick and punched and kicked him.

Fr Ochieng said the attackers did not take anything from him except the car key.

He added that they tore his clothes and pushed him on the road.

Fr Ochieng said he could not understand the motive for the violent assault, if the two young men were acting on their own or under instructions.

He added that some police officers on patrol came to his rescue, taking him to the radio station to get a spare key and to the police station where he recorded a statement.

Fr Ochieng said he wished his attackers would find time to reflect and allow their consciences to judge them for their act.

He observed that South Sudan cannot be built upon violence but through peaceful coexistence and non violent means to solve conflict.

Fr Ochieng is a Kenyan national.

He is part of the clergy of Rumbek Catholic Diocese and the parish priest of Sacred Heart- Malualbab, which houses Good News Radio.
