Four people have been reported dead in Heiban County as hunger intensifies in Nuba Mountains.

Three children and one old woman died of starvation last week.

The head of Kumbur Payam, Kuku Barnaba, said famine is out of control.

He added that people should unite and stand together against the looming hunger.

Mr Barnaba stated that hunger has led to serious crimes in the community.

He called upon individuals who have little food to share with others until the new crop is ready next month.

Mr Barnaba said many young people are stealing because of hunger.

He warned that there won’t be forgiveness for those who are caught, and they will be punished severely.

Mr Barnaba appealed to the community to get together in order to cope with the situation of famine and insecurity.
