An international NGO has asked for the full disclosure of the oil deal between South Sudan and Sudan in order to assure transparency in its implementation.
Global Witness issued a statement welcoming Friday’s oil agreement between South Sudan and Sudan.Campaigner Dana Wilkins said the agreement on the basics of an oil deal was great progress.
She added that as the devil is in the detail, and the long-term success of this agreement will depend on how it is implemented and monitored.
The watchdog says the final agreement should include the publication of regular and timely records of the volume of South Sudanese oil transiting Sudan’s processing facilities, pipeline, and marine terminals and all payments made and received by either government.
Global Witness is an international NGO established in 1993 that works against natural resource-related conflict and corruption and associated environmental and human rights abuses.
