The National Legislative Assembly has on Monday passed the National Communication Provisional Order into law that will regulate telecommunication in the country.
Chairperson of Information, Telecommunication and Culture, Joy Kwaje Eluzai, said the law will benefit companies to access a unified licensing for multiple services.She added that a telecom operator can apply for one license that includes four services.
Ms Kwaje added that law will established National Communication Agency (NCA) as the sole regulator and manager of frequency spectrum in conjunction with International Telecommunication Union.
She explained that NCA will technically manage the radio frequencies in the country instead of the ministry of information.
The National Communication Provisional Order 2012 was presented to the parliament on June 18 by the Justice Minister John Luk Jok.
