Juba City Council and Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, are to introduce an improved waste collection system this month at Atla Bara, Kator and the Jebel Market.
JICA said in press statement that the project will implement pilot activities to improve waste collection in the market and residential areas combined with the demonstration of improved operation in the dumping site. The waste collection system to be introduced is called “Fixed Time Fixed Station Collection System”, which enables waste management more efficient and sanitary.
In the pilot activity, the project provides plastic bins to residents in some areas, as well as fixing the station to place their domestic waste.
The residents then are requested to bring their domestic waste to the station at fixed times. Soon after, the truck comes to pick up at station by station.
